The operational demands of PPA management

A Power Purchase Agreement provider is responsible for the entire lifecycle of a solar installation — from commissioning through ongoing performance verification and billing. At scale, this means managing dozens or hundreds of sites with different equipment, different tariff structures, different billing cycles, and different contractual generation targets. Without a purpose-built platform, this operational complexity typically lands on spreadsheets and manual processes that don't scale and introduce error at every step.

Site configuration and onboarding

Conexie built a structured site onboarding workflow that captured all the configuration parameters required to manage a PPA site: hardware details, meter assignments, generation targets, tariff structure, billing contacts, and monitoring thresholds. Once configured, a site could be brought online and generating data within hours of hardware commissioning. The structured data model also made it possible to run fleet-wide queries — for example, identifying all sites with a specific inverter type, or all sites within a certain generation target range.

Real-time monitoring and performance alerting

For each PPA site, Conexie configured generation performance tracking against the contractual target. Where a site's rolling performance dropped below a defined threshold, alerts were triggered automatically — giving operations staff the information they needed to investigate before the underperformance became a contractual issue. The platform also provided a fleet dashboard showing performance status across all sites simultaneously, so operations teams could triage at a glance rather than checking sites individually.

Automated billing and reconciliation

PPA billing involves calculating the energy generated during the billing period, applying the agreed per-kWh rate, and issuing a compliant invoice to the customer. Conexie automated this calculation from meter data and connected it to the PPA provider's invoicing workflow. For customers with Xero, invoices were created directly via the API. For others, the platform generated invoice-ready exports in the required format. Billing reconciliation — comparing billed generation against independently metered figures — was handled within the platform and flagged any discrepancies automatically.

Data review and audit capability

Because PPA contracts create commercial obligations, the ability to audit historical data is important. Conexie's data review interface allowed the PPA provider's team to inspect raw interval data for any site and any period, trace generation figures back to individual meter readings, and produce audit-ready exports on demand. When contract disputes arose, the platform provided the documentation trail needed to resolve them without requiring manual data reconstruction.
